Law professors get court posts: SPP

Law professors get court posts: SPP

BEIJING, June 11 -- Three renowned law professors will begin two-year terms in the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) this week, becoming the second group of academicians selected to work with the country's highest agency for prosecution, Thirsday's China Daily reported.
Li Xihui, 52, a professor of criminal law at Beijing Normal University, was named director of SPP's detection and inspection department. Zhang Mingkai, 49, a professor in criminal law at Tsinghua University, will be the deputy director of SPP's public prosecution department.
Tang Weijian, 45, a professor in civil procedure law from Renmin University of China, was appointed deputy director of the civil and administrative prosecution department of the highest procuratorate.
The three scholars, all leading figures in their respective specializations, were appointed Friday.
They will all participate in the SPP's daily work for at least two half-days in their SPP offices, Tong said.
Han Yusheng, a professor from Renmin University of China who has worked in the Huairou district people's procuratorate, said appointing legal scholars to the procuratorates is a "win-win practice."
"It is very necessary for us scholars, who usually bury ourselves in books within universities, to learn the legal practice in reality," Han said.

The scholars are expected to connect their legal research with prosecution practice, researching deeper into major theoretical and practical issues of prosecution work to help provide a scientific background and theory support for SPP's policy-making.
